So over the weekend, it occurred to me that perhaps my current tenure might be coming to an end. There is an opportunity in my old stomping ground of Malaysia that I intend to explore, and have the blessing of my family to do so. I suspect there is a better than 50/50 chance of me securing it.
If so, that would bring to an end this chapter, the Kupang one. Hey it ain't over yet, but I thought, just in case I get swept up in things, I'd better take a snapshot of my page on our company website. It's the first time in my career this has happened, so I am saving it for posterity! Anyway here it is:
Yeah yeah, everyone who reads this blog knows who I am, I know. But just for consistency, I'd rather not paste my name around everywhere! Woohoo, me on the web, who would have thought!

2019
Happy new year, bah humbug and all that.
These days my greeting of choice at this time of year is "compliments of the festive season to you". Not because I am PC ( read my post on how I think western culture is destroying itself) but because I think the whole Christmas thing is a pile of nonsense. Commercialised, killed by the media and chainstores, and just made to feel worthless. At least to me. Honestly, the only reason we "do" Christmas is because of the joy it brings to the kids.
Anyway, so we spent the last week or so in KL. OMG I miss KL. It has been 2.5 years since we last lived there, but somehow it feels like 10 years. This trip we used AirBNB and stayed in Mont Kiara, close to where we were when Lala was born. Memories! It was great. I even drove around a bit, mainly to go get food.
Food.
Malaysian Food.
I do apologise Indonesia. I do enjoy your food. But I have to say this - Malaysian food is significantly better. It is significantly better than any country in the world I have visited! I don't know if it's the variety (Malaysia has a strong mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian culture and food), the old style of cooking that is not so health-conscious (i.e. they actually use fat in the cooking process) or if it's the awesome way food is presented in mamak's, hawker stalls, 1000's of restaurants, etc. Food is #1 in Malaysia, by a long-shot frankly. And I can see why. Because it's so, damn, good.
So what did I indulge in? Well we had pork noodle, roast duck, char kwey teow, chicken rice, roti canai, bak kut teh, banana leaf, tapas, prawn mee, wan tan mee. Omg the list goes on and on! It was so good, and so damn cheap! I love it!
Every country has its ups and downs. Good and bad points. Malaysia's bad point is that it's not really a free society and it is very corrupt. It is hard to know how sound the future is when the government is all over the place. Hopefully this new team will settle things down a bit. But overall, I really do like Malaysia, and frankly I would move there in a heartbeat if I could get another job there. Alas, there is very little mining in Malaysia. We must live in hope!
