50,000 Steps

That's my target this coming week. I am heading to Perth tomorrow for a blasting conference, with one of my team. It will be the first industry event I have been to in years, plus a chance to catch up with some old colleagues and mates. My goals for the week;

1) Get something out of the conference that I can apply at work.

2) Catch up with at least three old mates.

3) Go see some shield cricket at the WACA.

4) Wander around my old city.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of my last ever visits to Perth, perhaps the very last. Hey, don't get me wrong, I expect to live for another 20 years yet, but with limited opportunities to travel these days, and a lot of places higher on the priority list than Perth, going here of my own accord and spend is unlikely. Going here for another industry event is also unlikely, with many happening on the east coast these days. Going here for work is also unlikely, as I am not a corporate office type, and not doing FIFO ever again. So, as I said, I suspect this may well be my last trip here.

It will almost definitely be my last WACA visit too. They don't play international cricket there anymore, only shield. I imagine in due course this iconic site will be redeveloped, so coupled with the previous point, I think this will be my last WACA visit too.

I have mixed memories of Perth. I was at my lowest ebb when I was living here in Murrin times. I was also wasting away my cash and my health, not to mention my sanity. Yeah, I do have a lot of good memories, and some great mates. That's what I look forward to, seeing them. Luke and I are going to rekindle our old ways, meet at the Brass, then go for dim sum. We may even go have a look at one of his housing projects. I hope to see Adam, Stu, maybe Dean, Gully and Coops as well. It is going to be hard to fit it all in, especially as now I am not much of a drinker or night owl. But I will do my best. I really look forward to wandering the city streets, and getting a feel for the old Perth, one last time. I'll update my progress in the comments.

  2. So by lunchtime on Day 4 this week I have reached my goal of 50k steps! Really happy with that. Also achieved all other goals for the week too, so I’ll call it a success!
